No Impact Project’s International Day of Giving Back – Transportation
- November 18, 2011
- All over town.
Join the No Impact Project for an International Day of Giving Back! This month, the theme is Transportation, and we are teaming up with the Green Streets Initiative to organize the first Walk/Ride day in NYC on November 18th! This city-wide action will encourage New Yorkers to use healthy and sustainable modes of transportation such as biking, walking, public transit, unicycles, carpooling, skateboarding, etc. While there are many necessary ways to tackle the climate problem, we believe that each of us being engaged in action is part of the solution.
We are also partnering with local businesses which will provide deals for everyone who participates. Wear green! In the evening, join Colin Beavan and others for a Meet-up at Luca Bar to celebrate living sustainably. Luca Bar is located at 119 St. Marks Place.
Here’s how it works:
Starting on November 15th, participants will sign up on the Green Streets website and commit to riding a bike, walking, taking a bus, a subway or carpooling on that day. Throughout the day, local businesses that sponsor the event will provide discounts for participants. This will be followed by a Meet-up at Luca Bar to celebrate living more sustainably. In other words, reduce your carbon emissions, get a rush of endorphins, meet other inspired people, and enjoy yummy discounts all day!
This event will encourage us to look at our own consumption and transportation choices, and raise awareness for others in our communities. It also urges local businesses to be socially responsible while gaining new customers. Organize your friends and co-workers and see the ways in which sustainable choices increase personal health, environmental health and community connection.
How to get involved and participate:
1) Sign up here starting November 15th before the event. (Click on “Check-In” for NYC Ride/Walk).
2) Tell your friends, family and co-workers.
4) Come to our Meet-up @ 7:00 pm at Luca Bar (119 St. Mark’s Place) to celebrate. Details TBA.
