The MTA will be holding hearings in July to allow public comment on the proposed permanent closing or reduction in hours of 42 subway station booths and the proposed permanent elimination of 44 subway station customer assistance (SCA) locations and associated subway station kiosks. These actions are necessary to address the MTA’s continuing budget shortfall. Public hearings were previously held on these actions in 2009. Following the hearings, the Board of MTA New York City Transit approved the station changes. In mid-May 2010, 38 of the 44 SCA locations/kiosks proposed for elimination were closed. The sufficiency of the earlier hearings is the subject of ongoing litigation. The hearings scheduled below provide additional opportunity for public comment and participation on whether to make permanent any or all of the described station changes, including the elimination of the SCA locations and kiosks.
