New York City began as a Dutch trading post in the 1600s. We were reminded of this fact when construction for the South Ferry Terminal began and artifacts from New York City’s origins were uncovered. Archeologists worked tirelessly to uncover and preserve over 65,000 artifacts and on March 18, 2010, the Transit Museum’s Annex will exhibit over 100 of the items discovered. “Where New York Began: Archeology at the South Ferry Terminal” is a unique presentation of recently unearthed artifacts, documents and images that offers a comprehensive look at life in New York dating back to the 1600s.
