Dilithium is an unsustainable resource




Seriously though, logic (and in particular modernist worldview) did have something
to do with the decision to build the car based infrastructure back in the 40&#039;s... 
Oil was a national resource in that era, and peak oil for the country let alone the planet
was far from anyones mind. Cars did (and do) allow people the freedom to travel from 
place to place without reliance on a train schedule and fairly cheaply (especially if
subsidized). It&#039;s just that since the 70&#039;s the reasons justifying that logic have changed,
and no one has been able to take on the powers that got rich off of the road based
infrastructure.</description>
