Could be worse. They could have kept the old meters and reused them to collect money in the form of bicycle parking revenue.

This is a huge practical, but also symbolic victory for cyclists. It says that “Bikes Belong” even on expensive-fashionista Madison Avenue.

This is very different from just 5-6 years ago when Liz Kreuger spent a ton of her member item money on themoplastic symbols of a bike with a circle & slash (think Ghostbusters) on each intersection trying to convey the idea that bikes should be on the sidewalk.
