Ian: As of the latest reports I saw, the driver was not charged for causing a death (i.e. manslaughter, vehicular homicide), as is often the case when a driver, much less a drunk driver, leaves a fatal scene. Of course more charges could be forthcoming.

Cap'n: Good question. I would consider having Maureen McCormick on her staff, who is active in lobbying for tougher laws on killer drivers across the board, as a sign that Rice is serious about more than DWIs. I may have encountered more evidence, but nothing comes to mind right now.

It looks like the crash in Shirley did result in charges of "driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an incident". What did you mean by "Not Charged for Death"?

Rice has a great record on DWI, but do we have anything on her record as DA to suggest that she would bring about a significant improvement in traffic justice for people who were killed by non-drunk drivers?
