So Thompson's claim that community boards are not involved with installing bike lanes is thwarted now right?

This couldn't have been possible without the great help and support from the staff at TA, Glenn and the Upper Green Side gang, the amazing volunteers of the TA East Side Committee, and truly eloquent speakers who gave both their time and passion at countless CB committee meetings. Much thanks indeed!!

But this is just the first step. I'm really looking forward to even greater things for the East Side in the future!

Thanks again everyone!

The is a major breakthrough, even if lanes don't spring up immediately. It means that the community board accepts that protected bike lanes should happen and they want to be involved in shaping the final design.

Again, great job everyone - TA, East Side Committee folks, Michael, et al.

In addition to the more coordinated advocacy efforts this last year and having someone like Michael on the Board, I think the other critical element is a NYC DOT that is forward leaning on this issue and running little natural experiments all over the City with different types of bike lanes.

It's easy for a Community Board to avoid an issue if it's never been done before. But now that people can really see what it looks like, see how they work and see the data on the benefits, the case is much easier to make.

We will need to continue working on this to make sure the final design is really good.
