I am not crazy about giving up the elevated deck on the Brooklyn Bridge (to ride bellow with traffic). And the elevated path is totally adequate for all users during the morning commute.

The cover story of today's AM New York is about bus lanes. The big headline is "LANE PAIN" and the smaller front page caption reads "Some say city's bus paths create more problems than they solve." This doesn't really reflect the actual contents of the article, which mainly seems to say that bus lanes have resulted in a decrease in travel time by up to 20%, but are less effective than they should be because of lack of enforcement (e.g., traffic agents can't write tickets for driving in bus lanes, cameras are only used sparingly for bus lane enforcement). There is, of course, a token quote from a livery cab driver who objects to having some of his street space taken away.

Yesterday I saw peds walking 3 across in the bike lane. it was rush hour for the sidewalk but it did not look that full. to my discredit, i'm a biker on a bike going w/ traffic who wants to use the bike lane to prolong my own life.
