Please join CWA Local 1182 for a testimonial tribute for Traffic Enforcement and Sanitation Enforcement Agents that have died during the last two years. Included in this evening of remembrance will be a tribute to Traffic Agent Donnette Sanz who was run down and killed while on a traffic assignment August 14, 2008. The 33 year-old traffic agent was crossing the intersection at East 188th Street and Webster Avenue when a van pushed her into the path of an oncoming school bus that then pinned her to the road. The incident exemplifies the daily dangers faced by New York City Traffic and Sanitation Enforcement Officers.

Agents write summonses for the kind of dangerous infractions that impede the flow of traffic and at times interact with individuals who are angry and reluctant to cooperate. Verbal and sometimes physical abuse is among the drawbacks of the job. Due to the increased assaults on Traffic Agents the Legislature in 2008 approved a measure to make assaulting a traffic agent a felony instead of a misdemeanor.
