Living Liberally will host "cheap/urban/sustainable," a fun and informative open house about living sustainably in New York City -- without breaking the bank. The event will feature local businesses, community activists, demonstrations, films, and live entertainment.
Cheap/urban/sustainable is an opportunity to learn how to adopt the "sustainable lifestyle:" a healthier, more eco-friendly way of life. Living Liberally will dispel the myth that green living in NYC is only possible for the well-to-do, and help guests learn how to find and use local resources that facilitate environmentally conscious urban living.
Sustainable consumption is currently burdened with issues of access, affordability, and lack of awareness. At cheap/urban/sustainable, attendees will learn where and how to access organically grown, fair trade, and labor-friendly products. Local businesses, experts, and activists will illustrate just how tasty and easy it can be to live liberally in the Big Apple.
But the event, like sustainable living, goes far beyond how we shop. Green living involves the way we eat, cook, and commute for the benefit of our selves, our communities, and our environment. It can be overwhelming to make changes without help, so Living Liberally will distribute a resource guide that includes sustainable tips, recipes, and local businesses. With the right resources, it’s easy being green.
As Living Liberally points out, protecting the environment is just one way to show liberal pride. The national, grassroots organization creates social communities around progressive politics. Striving to prove that "Liberal" is no longer a dirty word, they encourage all progressives to become proud "Card-Carrying Liberals" with something called The Liberal Card.
The Liberal Card is the latest Living Liberally project, designed as a way for progressives to show their liberal pride. For the price of the card, carriers get access to unique discounts at local progressive businesses, which in return get free promotion to like-minded consumers. Living Liberally does all the research and leg-work so card-carrying liberals can shop, dine and drink with a clear conscience. And what’s more liberal than saving some coin?
