Why not the Governor himself? Newsday says he used to commute by bike from his house in Hempstead to Hofstra University when he was a student there.

I'd be overjoyed if both Mrs. Paterson and Adrian Benepe rode up the Greenway from Battery Park to Dyckman Street after sunset so they could experience firsthand the joys of (1) being blinded on the Cherry Walk by southbound traffic, (2) riding in pitch darkness next to the Amtrak rails near 160th Street, (3) encountering the hazards of the path at the Grecian Temple near 181st Street where an invisible parking lot with steep drop-offs can lead the first-time path user straight to the ER, as it did in my case.

It's funny how the conditions of the Greenway become much more hazardous north of 96th Street, paralleling other urban inequities that start at that very same boundary.

I guess it's too much to ask Mrs. Paterson to climb the Greenway's hill from the tennis courts under the GWB up to the West 181st St access point. Maybe she can still be sensitized to the danger that the southbound road traffic's headlights pose to Greenway riders.
