Williamsburg's Bedford Avenue, from North 4th Street to North 9th Street, will be open to pedestrians only on six Saturdays this summer from noon to sunset.

Williamsburg Walks, initiated by community members and organized this year by Neighbors Allied for Good Growth and The L Magazine, is a temporary street closure intended to promote the enjoyment of Northside Brooklyn, both on Bedford Avenue and beyond. Walks invites the community to come together, shop, stroll, socialize and enjoy activities planned by local non-profits and businesses in an area unobstructed by traffic.

Says organizer Gregor Nemitz-Ziadie, "Williamsburg is such a creative, vibrant and diverse community that it is a truly thrilling experience to see it come alive in the street."

After the successful 2008 program, this year Williamsburg Walks is hoping to make the event even more enjoyable for North Brooklyn’s residents, merchants, and visitors and is inviting the public to share their opinions and ideas. Walks is also a great opportunity to actively support the community: individuals and organization can volunteer to help.
