It's going to take at least two days to move all of Scagnelli's stuffed animals out of his office. I especially liked the cougar he shot with his bow in Utah. Or the sailfish in the cafeteria. Stunning.

Seriously, is it too much to ask to have police who don't break any laws? At least not right in front of everyone?

And I'm not talking about just the usual subject, parking. I'm talking about everything, including operating their vehicles while talking on handheld cellphones. Appalling, considering the 400% increase in likelihood of crashing.

We need to start by getting rid of the belief that the law applies only to civilians. A police force that routinely breaks the same laws that they are trying to enforce loses all credibility and respect, and breeds an "us vs them" mentality. Police officers need to be told from on high that their behaviour needs to be impeccable and that they are NOT above the law. Seems obvious, but unfortunately there are too many cases that show it's obviously not...

Hopefully Scagnelli laid some of the groundwork for real change. However, his attitude is pretty telling. I'm sure there are police officers that value safety OVER moving traffic, and prioritize enforcement in the following way:

1) sidewalk/crosswalk enforcement
2) bus lane enforcement
3) bike lanes enforcement
4) moving lane violations
5) Parking violations

Parking on the sidewalk and in crosswalks should be intolerable. Yes, Scagnelli did some good things, but we have a LONG way to go.

Well, that's one benefit of forcing people in positions of power to retire early... If only we didn't have to pay their pensions.

He was the guy who saw to it that a Traffic Agent who ticketed his UNMARKED vehicle got SUSPENDED WITHOUT PAY (for doing her job, needless to add).

He wasn't satisfied to just use his position to have the summons dismissed. He actually had to see her get in trouble (for doing her job).

She had to go through all this trouble to get her union to protect her job, and she still ended up losing a week's pay. All cause of this guy.
