State Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. is looking forward to his first day in Fordham.

“When I come back toward the tail end of the spring it’ll be my first opportunity to really be back home since my election as senator,” the lawmaker, who also represents parts of Riverdale and Kingsbridge, said Tuesday. “And the residents of the 33rd state Senate district will finally, I think, directly feel the impact of having a high-ranking, highly energized senator at work on their behalf.”

Yet before Mr. Espada moves in to his district office at 400 E. Fordham Road, the question on the block seems to be: Pedro who?

Not even the doorman in Mr. Espada’s new building knows the answer.

Of the first 30 people walking past the future home of Mr. Espada’s office who spoke to The Press, only five could identify him as a lawmaker.

He’s moving into his district office on May 1st. How about a nice protest to “celebrate” his arrival

Hey Ruben Diaz Sr., listen up: Bridge users are not local Bronx residents who would suffer from the tolls. They are suburbanites going THROUGH the Bronx, offering nothing to the borough but pollution, horn honking and pedestrians risk. Even your colleague is one of them.

Even his phone is listed publicly as being in Mamaroneck. Except it’s under his wife’s name, Connie Espada. Here is the address for those interested:

Sadly, this is not surprising at all. Maybe someone will step up to run for office that is somewhat in touch with the lives of the constituents. A good start would be someone that actually lives in the district.

An old story among the Bronx political class.

Park Drive is known as “politician row.” It is technically in the Bronx and has a Bronx address, but is cut off from the rest of the borough by Pelham Bay Park and only assessible through Pelham. And the kids attend Pelham schools.

Espada has merely gone one step further.

Are those who live in the city but do not need to use its public services such as the transit system really much different?
