Streetfilms: Signing On to Save Transit
Last week we saw citizens of Minneapolis explain the many ways they rely on transit service to conduct their daily business. Streetfilms' Robin Urban Smith captured New Yorkers doing the same, as Transportation Alternatives collected letters to state lawmakers from Queens residents who oppose possible MTA fare hikes and service cuts.
If you haven't yet contacted your state reps to encourage them to enact the recommendations of the Ravitch Commission, including tolls on East and Harlem River bridges, there's still time. Constituents of opposed or undecided Senators Kevin Parker, John Sampson and Carl Kruger of Brooklyn; Ruben Diaz Sr., Pedro Espada Jr., and Ruth Hassell-Thompson of the Bronx; and Toby Stavisky, George Onorato and Malcolm Smith of Queens are especially encouraged to write or call.
