At that point "the people" will rage, and demand to know why we didn't "do anything" about it before crisis hit. On the other hand, if by "walk away from it" Obama means "refrain from giving handouts to car companies and/or buyers in order to stave off inevitable disaster and push the problem into the future where I don't have to deal with it", I'm all for it. Sadly, I believe he means the exact opposite.
