A great reminder that sensible, sustainable transportation planning is neither a liberal nor conservative issue.</description>

I think urban design, energy, transportation, and related issues should be part of high school civics, science, and social studies classes. No one should get a high school diploma without reading Kunstler, Duany, Jacobs.

A trip to Europe wouldn&#039;t hurt either. Once you &lt;i&gt;see&lt;/i&gt; Amsterdam, Venice, Paris, Munich, Madrid, etc. -- that&#039;s when you just &lt;i&gt;get&lt;/i&gt; urbanism. Expecting kids to make sensible decisions as future citizens without letting them see well-organized landscapes is like expecting them to spout Shakespeare when they&#039;ve never gotten beyond Dick and Jane and Spot. 		<description>Thanks for putting up this link on Streetsblog.  I didn&#039;t get home on time last Friday to watch this episode of Now and afterward, I just forgot about it.

While perusing Streetsblog, waiting for the rain to stop so I could ride my bike home without getting too wet, I took the time to watch this.

Excellent and superb but this is Urban Planning 101.  It&#039;s a shame that such basic tenets of urban design are just lost on 99% of Americans.</description>
