The New York Public Library and the New York Transit Museum join forces to present a two-location exhibition about New York City's underground infrastructure initiatives in the 21st Century. Examining the magnitude and historical context of eight massive building projects, the exhibition provides New Yorkers a behind the scenes glimpse at their changing city and how these improvements will affect their lives.
Tonight, at the Library, viewers can begin to learn about:
- New Jersey Transit's new Trans-Hudson Express tunnel
- transit hub beneath the World Trade Center site, spearheaded by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
- the New York City Department of Environmental Protection's Third Water Tunnel
- NYC DEP's new water filtration plant under Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx
Projects explored at the Transit Museum Annex at Grand Central Terminal (which opened on Sunday) are the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's four megaprojects:
- the Second Avenue Subway
- the extension of the 7 subway line
- East Side Access
- Fulton Street Transit Center
