"i find it sadly ironic that the DA goes on the warpath when a handful of people die in dramatic crane accidents... while more than 100 pedestrians and bicyclists die on NYC streets every year."

How about a petition for Morgenthau to admit that he is a man from the cars first era and other bygone eras and step down?

How about at the very least this driver has his license taken away and is not allowed to operate a vehicle on our city streets while the investigation is taking place. Wouldn't that be the very least the DA and NYPD should be doing to keep New Yorkers safe?

How could Morgenthau and the cops put this guy back in the driver's seat after the negligence he showed?

Keep up the pressure. And it's not about lynching this one driver (although he should of course be sensibly charged), but about getting our District Attorneys to grow a grasp of reality when it comes to car-related damage and death.
