Notes
If you can't make the premier & screening, the program debuts tomorrow on Channel 13.

Paris's ambitious public-private Vélib’ bike initiative encourages residents to forgo cars for bikes and public transportation. In the process, the program has fostered a unique popular culture, complete with its own language, jokes and pick-up lines. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoë has undoubtedly taken heart: Its success has inspired cities like Rome, San Francisco and London to begin adopting similar programs of their own.

Please join Janette Sadik-Khan, Transportation Commissioner of New York City, for the world premiere of Paris: Vélo Liberté from the critically acclaimed PBS series e²: the economies of being environmentally conscious.

The screening will be immediately followed by a discussion of metropolitan bike sharing programs with:

  • Denis Baupin, Deputy Mayor, Paris
  • André Lavallée, Mayor, Arrondissement de Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie, Montréal
  • Janette Sadik-Khan, Transportation Commissioner, New York City
