Actually, Disneyland (and indeed most theme parks) exemplifies truly livable streets. Automobiles are not allowed, and the place is designed with the pedestrian experience in mind. Store entrances are in front, there are no buildings with black walls, and there are no stoplights to navigate. Nobody ever gets killed by automobile in a theme park. I would argue that we should make our public places more like Disneyland, not less.

I hope this time there will be improvements. Some merchants in that area put up a huge fight whenever any change is suggested. If the Wharf can be improved, and made "sweeter" for people - then anything is possible and perhaps the tide has turned.

Funny, when I was living in the Bay Area, Fisherman's Wharf was considered to be the ultimate tourist trap -- not at all a destination for locals. I wonder if that has changed in recent years.

Anything that makes the area less like Disneyland is sure to be an improvement.
