Come hear Commissioner Astrid Glynn, New York State Department of Transportation, and Commissioner Joseph Marie, Connecticut Department of Transportation, talk about each state’s commitment to transit-centered development.
Astrid Glynn

New York State Department of Transportation
Ms. Glynn plays a key role in setting transportation policies at both the State and the national levels. She is committed to promoting transit-centered development and is a leader in expanding mass transit. At the state level, Ms. Glynn chairs the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Capital Program Review Board as well as the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC). She is a member of the Governor’s Smart Growth Cabinet, and the Minority and Women Business Enterprise Executive Leadership Council.
At the national level, Ms. Glynn chairs the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standing Committee on Rail Transportation, chairs the AASHTO Intercity Passenger Rail Leadership Group, and is a member of the AASHTO Special Committee on Intermodal Transportation and Economic Expansion.
Joseph Marie
Commissioner
Connecticut Department of Transportation
Appointed in June 2008, Mr. Marie oversees the 3,200-employee agency as well as commuter and freight rail lines, shoreline ports, piers, ferries and Bradley International Airport. He is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Connecticut’s roads, highways and bridges, and the state’s public transit system.
In his previous leadership positions with METRO in Phoenix, Arizona and METRO TRANSIT in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. Marie oversaw the successful startup of two major commuter rail systems in the two states. Mr. Marie has also held executive postions with two Fortune 500 companies.
With over 22 years of transit industry experience in the public and private sectors, Mr. Marie has worked on various transportation systems in the United States, Latin America and Europe. He has written extensively on transit equipment technology, operations and modal integration for transportation industry journals worldwide.
