Melbourne looks fabulous, not only for the quality of its transit system, but the good-looking urban landscape. I'd love to take some long walks there. Someday.

Wonderful story. It's interesting how cities within a country don't necessarily resemble each other. I visited Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide last year as part of an urban planning thing, and none of the cities impressed me with their mass transit system. They all seemed very American in their domination of and by the highway. (Brisbane did have a nice ferry system.) I kept hearing about how great Melbourne was, but unfortunately my hosts didn't take me there.
