Obama's bike doesn't have a pie plate on it, at least. One less thing for BSNYC to find fault with. :-)

What brand is the motorcycle, btw? I guess it's a Harley, but I'd be tickled if it's Japanese model or somesuch. Trek is a U.S. company, after all. (Though a bike in that line is most likely made in the ROC or PRC.)

This conservative favors transit, biking, density and complete streets, for all the reasons thorn (#7) mentioned. I'm far from the only one (one time conservative gadfly Paul Weyrich is a big streetcar advocate -- http://townhall.com/columnists/PaulWeyrich/2008/06/04/streetcars_are_returning,_in_spite_of_bush_administration_opposition) but generally it's pretty lonely over here.

Classic! The funny thing is most of the comments are about schoolboy crushes on Palin. Somehow I think that's about as much vetting as she ever got.

Obama is pulling a trailbike. His daughter riding it was cut from the picture apparently in order not to expose her to too much commentary/campainging.

It looks not only like his tire is not inflated (could be suffering a puncture) but also his seat seems to be too low. I guess he does not get to ride too much on that bike (btw. that Trek gives a much better impression than Sen. Kerry's who-knows-how-many-thousands-of-dollars Serotta).

Our comments have less spelling mistakes. And we know the difference between a Schwinn and a Trek. That Palin woman scares me.

Following the link to that site was harmful to my brain. I am happy to see that Barak Obama spends time riding his bike with one of his daughters in tow.

This is quite damaging to Obama. Look at that back tire! Not even close to properly inflated. How much energy was he wasting?
The hypocrisy!

One thing that's hard to understand about conservatives' hostility toward "alternative" transportation is that complete and livable streets movements are fundamentally about values of community, cooperation, and safety, which are values also claimed by conservatives. Isolated, rageful drivers speeding past and slamming into each other seems like a greater threat to supposedly conservative values than livable streets where communities can connect. Oh wait, if we *connect*, then we can't tuck ourselves away in pressboard suburbs and base our social and political ideology on fear and prejudice--now I get it, never mind.

from an email that is circulating:

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic' and 'different.'

Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're an American story.

If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, and you're a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, then you're well-grounded.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, left your ill wife, and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If your husband is called 'First Dude', has a DWI conviction, didn't register to vote until 25, and was a member of a group that advocated secession of Alaska from the USA, yours is the quintessential American family.

And, finally, if you're famous for your quick temper, you're the one to have your finger on the red nuclear button.

and I would add:

If your husband was a member of a group that advocated secession from the US, so you and he would no longer be American citizens, then you are proud to be an American.
