When we met, we may have been dressed as trees, wrapped in bubble wrap, clocking the speed of cars on the loop drive, sharing free "Iced Tea for a Car-Free Park" or maybe just enjoying another beautiful day in our favorite park. Whatever we, the Prospect Park Youth Advocates, were up to on that day there is one thing for certain--that you, our fellow New Yorker, decided that you also want a Prospect Park that is safe, healthy and car-free.
Along with 10,000 other New Yorkers, you signed a postcard to Mayor Bloomberg asking him to make Prospect Park a place where pedestrians, runners, rollerbladers and cyclists of any age and ability can relax and recreate at any time of day without the worry of speeding traffic.
To be sure that the Mayor has heard New York City park-goers loud and clear and that we don't see another summer go by with traffic crowding Brooklyn's most important park, we invite you, your family and friends to a very special event. Entitled "Brooklyn Brings it to Bloomberg," we will walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at 4pm to hand deliver the 10,000 postcards to the Mayor and then host a short rally at 5pm on the steps of City Hall. We will be joined by the infamous Brooklyn Steppers marching band, our City Council Members and supporters young and old. We will carry a "green loop drive", and ask each supporter to carry a handful of cards from their fellow Brooklynites across the bridge to City Hall.
Thank you for standing up for a better park this summer and we hope to see you on Monday afternoon! For more details, please check our blog, youthforcarfreeparks.org.
