Brooklyn Community Board 1, which represents Williamsburg and Greenpoint, will take up two important issues. Supporters of safe streets need to speak up on both to make sure these opportunities don't pass us by.
The agenda:
1.) New bike lanes on Kent Avenue
Several months ago, the full board approved the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, a contiguous protected greenway along the entire Brooklyn East River Waterfront. The DOT is installing painted bike lanes on Kent Avenue as an interim measure. We need bicyclists (and drivers!) to come out and support the new lanes, which will run the length of Kent Avenue and replace both parking lanes with painted buffered bike lanes. CB1 approved trading this parking for the greenway this spring, and we need to remind them of all the support there is for making this critical artery safe for biking.
2.) Improving intersection safety
CB1 will also hear a proposal to remove parking around dangerous intersections to improve visibility and safety. Speak out for this "daylighting" to protect pedestrians in North Brooklyn. See you Monday! Remember to sign up to speak.
