What I see here is an incredible opportunity for the police to actually do their job and ticket every car in the box.

Congestion pricing??

Not needed if the "American Foreign Legion" (aka NYPD) wanted to do their watered-down (post Reagan/Bush crack epidemic) job.

1-there is always more demand for parking in hell's kitchen due to the nearby theatre district. we can be best served with park and ride facilities in new jersey.

2-parking gives reason for people to bring there cars, therefore, parking should be eliminated. permits for residents will deter traffic, because residents will rarely use their cars.

3-delivery vehicles, taxis, and buses, should have open shoulder lanes and should be allowed 30 minute parking.

The CBD has about 26k curbside spots and somewhere around 200k off-street spots. (Actually nobody knows, but that's a reasonable guess based on 120k public spots and 80k accessory spots.)Curbside parking is much more beneficial to society at large. It is where deliveries are made and service and emergency vehicles park (or try to park.)Curbside should be properly metered, not eliminated. The off-street parking being built is not intended for service and delivery trucks, so it's got no real benefit.

Perhaps an equal amount of street parking could be removed, if there was coordination between the CPC and DOT. Of course, it woudl be easier to reverse the lost street parking than the approved parking garage.

No one parking garage is going to have a significant effect on traffic in Midtown. On the other hand, 20,000 new parking spaces vs. none is a significant impact. That's the problem with one-special-deal-at-a-time planning, which everyone political in NYC seems to love.
