The AIA New York Chapter and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene cordially invite you to Fit-City 3: Promoting Physical Activity through Design.

In the third annual Fit-City conference, we will examine how research and theory become policy and practice. Public officials, health professionals, architects, building owners, and designers will speak on how building design and urban policy decisions increase physical activity and help to prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and asthma. Panels will address: “PlaNYC and a Fit NYC” featuring representatives from various city agencies; and “Thoughts from the Field” featuring representatives from the architecture, development, and building industries.

Keynote Speakers: Dr. James Sallis, San Diego State University and Active Living Research; and Jan Gehl, Hon. FAIA, Architect and public space consultant from Copenhagen, Denmark.

Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, New York City Health Commissioner, will introduce a new effort to help New Yorkers burn calories and help the environment.
