Symposium: Closing the Gap: Financing the Region’s Transportation Needs

The country is facing a crisis as our transportation capacity needs continue to outpace our ability to find long-term and sustainable funding sources for state-of-good-repair and normal replacement, as well as capital expansion and operations. As the crisis grows, states and municipalities have begun exploring new financing mechanisms, including public private partnerships, congestion pricing, and user fees, among others. At the federal level, recent reports by the two Federal commissions explore various alternative sources of funding as well. However, there are no easy choices and in many cases, political will is lacking.

Join us as we explore how we arrived at this crisis, what it means for the New York metropolitan region, and how we might address this critical challenge as we seek to improve and expand our regional transportation system. Governor Edward Rendell from Pennsylvania has been invited as the keynote speaker. Confirmed panelists include:
