I'll never forget the story of the parking officer who got suspended for writing a valid summons for a car belonging to some NYPD or DOT bigshot. What a piece of @#$% that bigshot was, to actually see to it that the parking officer got disciplined (and harshly) for doing her job.

This is great news, but like the above comments, I'd like to see this sustained, everyday. The only way to do that is to train parking officers that they CAN ticket illegally parked cars with placards. Parking officers also need the backing of higher-ups when they are challenged. No parking officer should be fired or reprimanded for ticketing an illegally parked, no matter who it belongs to.

So what, 250 cars ticketed or towed out of 142,000 placards out there? I read here that 70% of all placard use is illegal so we have a long way to go.

It should not have to be IAD that does this; create no-placard zones throughout the city (like Chinatown) and have the parking enforcers actually enforce it.

Create a roving task force that challenges people on returning to their placard-parked car and issues summonses for illegal use.

A four-day blitz is less than a drop in the bucket against this entrenched illegal behavior.

A 4 day crackdown is a good start. I'd like to see a non-stop blitz until we see real change in behavior.
