Come and ask question, raise issues and bring your comments and suggestions to Metro-North Railroad President Peter Cannito. Also present will be representatives from the Connecticut Department of Transportation and Bureau of Public Transportation. No doubt you have heard that Mr. Cannito has announced that he is retiring in July of this year. We will take the opportunity at the President’s Forum to thank Mr. Cannito for all that he has accomplished while at the helm of Metro-North. We urge you to stop by to not only to ask questions or offer your thoughts about the Metro-North Railroad, but also express your appreciation to Mr. Cannito for his outstanding leadership.
Via Elm City Cycling message board:
I regret to report that last week, the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council failed to pass Richard Stowe's resolution in favor of bicycle parking in the new M-8 train car designs. As a result, the last chance that we have to persuade Metro North to approve a bike-friendly design is this Wednesday, March 26 at 5 pm at the President's Forum. The forum is a once-per-year opportunity for citizens to express wishes and concerns pertaining to Metro North trains. ...
We *need* to pack the meeting with helmet-toting cyclists! ... If we don't speak out on behalf of Connecticut cyclists THIS WEDNESDAY, then our bikes-on-trains initiative will almost surely fail, and it will be another thirty years before we have a chance to properly integrate bicycle and rail transit in our state.
Via Escape from Yonkers e-mail tip:
metro north rr prices are very expensive, but the only public transit game in town for many river town commuters. the metro-north official bike policy of only 2 bikes per car 4 bikes train is a deterrent. Seems like they could start to incorporate proactive planning for additional bike allowance on their trains, congestion pricing and fuel prices are going to increase the bike use, and metro north will be the roadblock. the trains are very crowded as it is , i don't know what the solution is, maybe the old bar cars could be converted to a dedicated bike car.
