Over the next few decades, numerous investments will be needed in transportation and related infrastructure, but public funding will be hard pressed to meet that demand. While there are many alternative funding sources and mechanisms being explored, one of the most heated debates centers upon public private partnerships. Join NYU Wagner’s Rudin Center for a panel of distinguished practitioners, who will discuss U.S. & international experiences with public private partnerships in their many forms, and will explore the promise and policy challenges, as well as future possibilities for mobilizing private equity for public benefit in transportation.

Featuring:

John Schmidt, Partner, Mayer Brown LLP, who was named one of the 100 most influential lawyers in America by National Law Journal, and has been Counsel for a number of U.S. public private partnerships, including the privatization of the Chicago Skyway Toll Bridge, the privatization of the Grant Park Garages, the lease of Denver’s Northwest Parkway. Also co-counsel for the State of Indiana in the privatization of the Indiana Toll Road, he continues to represent states and local government entities in a variety of other privatization initiatives.

David Narefsky, Partner, Mayer Brown LLP, who has played leading roles in the transactions related to the Chicago Skyway, the Chicago Underground Parking System and the Northwest Parkway Toll Road. He is now Counsel to the City of Chicago on the proposed privatization of Midway Airport, and is advising on the proposed privatization of the Pennsylvania Turnpike as well as a new container port in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Sébastien Gourgouillat, Transportation and Construction Attaché, Embassy of France, who is in charge of promoting exchanges between France and the U.S. in the field of transportation with a focus on environment and sustainable development. A Public Works and Transportation Engineer, he has also held positions as a highway project manager and a railway project financial officer with the French ministry of transportation.
