A $2.4 Billion Canoli to Fund new Buses and a $1.6 Billion Brownie for Subways
Members of the Campaign for New York’s Future will host a Better Transit Bake Sale to raise billions of dollars for mass transit improvements and expansion in the event the State Legislature does not approve congestion pricing and other new revenue sources in March.
Among the Better Transit Bake Sale items:
- A $1.6 billion fudge brownie, which will be needed if congestion pricing fails to purchase 636 new subway cars for the A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q, R, V, W & Z trains, as well as 64 new Staten Island Railway cars;
- A $2.4 billion canoli, which will be needed to purchase 3,285 new clean-fuel buses and 1,016 new paratransit vans, and to create 12 new bus routes, new bus-only bridge lanes and Bus Rapid Transit Lines;
- A $1.3 billion sugar cookie, which will be needed to rehabilitate 44 stations in all five boroughs;
- A $350 million cupcake, which will offset the $350 million grant from the federal government to implement transit improvements prior to congestion pricing.
