New York State Department of Transportation - 20 Year Needs Assessment
From the Staten Island Advance:
What will Staten Island look like 20 years from now, in terms of transportation infrastructure and traffic?
To come up with an answer and formulate goals for securing federal funding to pay for improvements, the state Department of Transportation will host a public roundtable about traffic congestion, to hear straight from residents where the greatest problems are.
. . .
Instead of building more highway lanes, the state is focusing on improving and managing demand on existing roads, considering pricing strategies, including charging higher tolls during peak hours, making more investments in transit, and promoting development that incorporates transit, to cut down on car-dependence.
The roundtable will include representatives from transportation agencies and the business world, to be followed by a public question and comment period.
