South East Queensland is Australia's fastest growing urban region, increasingly confronted by issues of sustainability. In recent years, new regional planning processes and evolving changes in urban planning and urban design thinking are significantly changing both the role and ideology of governments at different levels and the nature and emphasis of the urban development being delivered or sought. But not without debate. Not everyone signs up to ideas of investment in transit and TOD, growth boundaries, denser urban housing, non-hierarchical centre networks, the urban integration of major institutions, social sustainability through affordable housing and government involvement in urban development.

Warren Rowe, Greg Vann and John Byrne have all had significant parts to play in this changing SEQ world from across different parts of governments and the private sector. Through looking at a variety of current and recent major urban projects, they will explore some of these issues and welcome feedback from New York's planning community.
