People who own cars in the city should pay for the privilege, me included. People who USE cars in the city should pay more..a LOT more. Cities are for people, not for cars. I support congestion pricing and commend Mayor Bloomberg for his foresight and courage in proposing it. For once the business community is supporting the right strategy. There should be charges for street parking beyond the 60th St. limit the commission is proposing because commuters will clog up the streets north of there for parking. Suburbanites have no inherent privilege of free access to NYC and should contribute to the congestion, pollution and economic costs of visiting or doing business here. I strongly support the new Kheel plan for a very high congestion price whose revenues would be dedicated to providing FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION in the city. The economic, social and environmental benefits of this would be incalculable.
