Hilary, they don't just get parking permits, they get their own special City Council license plates. I can't find a picture online, but I've seen them on my own councilmember's car.

Does anyone know if city councilmen get parking permits? Just wondered after meeting with Koppell who had driven in yesterday (and another category left off the list supplied by the Mayor's office).

Lew wants to increase the payroll tax for infrastrucure. Others want to increase the payroll tax for social security.

Why not the income tax? Because retirees pay income tax at the federal level, but not in NY. The income tax falls on investment income too. Just working people pay payroll taxes.

It's strange though that T.A. dismisses certain transportation capital projects as unneeded "holes in the ground." I think they've supported the Cross-Harbor Tunnel and Gowanus tunnel in the past. Are the Second Avenue subway, ARC and LIRR-Grand Central also "holes in the ground" that "those how rely on mass transit" don't need? Doesn't the city rely intensely on holes in the ground every day?

Kind of reminds me of the guy who had gangrene on one leg and after waking up from surgery told the doctor that he cut off the wrong one. Then, waking up again after the doctor cut off the right one, he told the doctor he wanted to sue.

The doctor informed him he couldn't do that since he didn't have a leg to stand on.
