A minor correction to the Aubergine Cafe caption: the photo is of the crash from last Thursday, November 1. John has a photo of the 2005 crash, but has not put it on the web.

There are two more photos of Thursday's crash on Queens Crap. This intersection is a block from my apartment, and I'm a regular customer at Aubergine . It's a popular spot for people to bring their children, and customers often linger outside with strollers. Gary, the owner, told me that he saw a parent pull their child out of the way just before the van hit.

Transportation Alternatives' crash maps show that this three-block stretch had eleven pedestrian injuries in the 1995-2001 study period. The demand for safety improvements in the neighborhood seems to be growing, and hopefully we can do something to prevent someone from getting killed.
