You’re right, Andy, but most of the opponents of congestion pricing are actually center-right Democrats, and the proponents are a mixture of left-wing Democrats, Greens and Republicans. Funny to hear Democrats repeating neocon propaganda, isn’t it?

“Drive Free?!”

Again, the pro congestion lobby gets it wrong. Driving is _never_ free, especially in a dense city like NYC.

Plus, drivers slows everyone else, soils the air we all breathe, and makes it difficult for bus riders, pedestrians and bicyclists to move, much less move safely. all of these costs are borne more heavily by low and middle income new yorkers who drive less and are more likely to live near choked motorways.

Drivers are not the only ones with a right to mobility and comfort! Congestion pricing, in thinning traffic and returning revenue to transit, will give bus riders, pedestrians and cyclists what they have never had: equal right to safe and expeditious movement.

Is this what the American dream has boiled down to in the 21st Century?

Instead of shining a light to the huddled masses around the world, Lady Liberty now takes on the heavy lifting of supporting our national addiction to oil.

Frankly, I don’t think she can carry it much longer. The punished Titan Atlas would be a better symbol of the impact of cars on the city’s quality of life.
