Sadik-Khan interviewed Gehl last year for the New York Transportation Journal. He told her his top three recommendations for the Mayor of NY would be: close Times Square to cars, reduce the number of parking spaces and increase cycling facilities. I imagine she hired him because she wants to implement those recommendations. I just hope that she's able to accomplish them. And not just in Manhattan, please!

Good street furniture is extremely important. Walking is great, but having more seats to rest at is just as important for children, seniors and as a place to enjoy a little food or drink.

I'd like to hear more specifics about what Gehl will be studying for the city, and whether his ideas will be influential at City Hall or simply ignored by fossilized law makers and bureaucrats.
