Congestion Pricing Process Moves Forward in Albany

This afternoon the New York State Assembly voted 122-16 and the Senate voted 39-16 in favor of the process that would establish a 17-member commission to develop traffic mitigation measures for New York City. The commission's plan would be required to produce a 6.3% reduction in average vehicle miles traveled in New York City. Mayor Bloomberg praised the legislature and said that he is "confident that through our work with the commission, our proposal for congestion pricing will be implemented." Perry replied he concern is that the commission will be "stacked" with people who favor congestion pricing.

One of Krueger's devilish details is:

"Re-evaluating the City's flawed parking permit system for government workers and reducing the number of unnecessary vehicles through the confiscation of non-justifiable and fake permits."

Clearly, streetsblog should back her on that.

Students Paint the Pavement in Brooklyn

Not only did these students beautify their school's street, they also identified it to motorists as a thoroughfare frequented by school-age pedestrians in a way that mere signage and conventional markings do not. There are hundreds of school zones across the city that could benefit from the same treatment.
