This all sounds great, but let's wait to see concrete results, especially where some interest groups will take offense -- like closing Central and Prospect Parks to cars. Hopefully this (and all of PlaNYC) is not just greenwashing for major new real estate developments.

In other DOT news, the Daily Politics blog at the Daily News reports that Commish Janette Sadik-Kahn missed last week's congestion pricing hearing for an interesting reason.

She was in Denmark for a pre-arranged meeting with Jan Gehl. "He gave her a tour of all of their pedestrian-friendly and bike-friendly projects because they are the world's role model in this," says a DOT spokeswoman.

Sadik-Kahn's trip is being paid for with a $4,000 grant from the Regional Plan Association, part of a larger, $53 million grant the association received from the JM Kaplan Foundation to study environmentally friendly transportation alternatives.

What a change of tune at City Hall!
