That works OK for me because I am a strong rider and can hold my own, but that's really inappropriate for most casual riders. It's better to have one-way lanes on either side of the street. If auto traffic is one-way, then one of the lanes will be contra-flow, but that's preferable to a two-way class II bike lane.
