Taxi Technology

A talk by Gary Roth of the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission

By the end of the year, all of NYC's 13,000 yellow cabs must accept credit cards and also contain a GPS unit. In order to ensure that the technology is consistent across the fleet, the TLC signed a contract with four vendors to supply the necessary equipment and services. After installation, unprecedented information will be harvested from this $1.8-billion industry, serving about 240 million passengers a year.
