I can remember getting drunk on New Year's Eve back when I was a teenager and taking the LIRR home. All that happened was that I threw up and the conductor ordered me off the the train at Carle Place where I had to wait two hours fo the next train home. I say, curfew all private autos on New Year's Eve and equip all trains with barf bags! I hear you Maria. Take a moment, imagine that you are the parent, child or sibling of the person injured or killed in the report, and let it sink in. The whole get-drunk-and-drive-on-New-Year's-Eve phenomenon reminds me of the Star Trek episode where two alien worlds have reached such an advanced stage of "civilization" that they engage in warfare by lauching computer-simulated attacks on each other, with the computer-designated "victims" reporting to death chambers to be killed. When are we going to stop these ritualistic deaths in sacrifice to the car gods? Another shocking round of death and injuries.
