Hrm. From that China Daily article...

The incident ocurred after the woman confronted Niu, assuming he had been driving in a bicycles-only lane. Niu said had not violated any traffic rules. Traffic police testified that he had been driving on a road of mixed traffic, open to both cars and bicycles.

Even with everything I've seen as a daily bike commuter in NYC, I am stunned to read this post. What a great shot of the "foreign auntie" standing tall as that ogre comes at her. I'm inspired to continue being a pesky bike advocate at the scene of all the crimes against non-drivers I witness everyday.

What's really shocking about this is the global level of entitlement-fueled anger combined with pure ignorance about people acting outside of the car-culture norm. The driver apologized about throwing a senior citizen's bike to the ground (what a soul searching epiphany!), but what about being in what looks like a dedicated bike lane?

Why can't people get it through their thick skulls that one more person on a bike is one less person in a polluting, traffic-causing car, one less person stepping into an overburdened transit system and one less person getting heart disease from obesity and a stultifying level of hate toward people who choose to get around town in a different mode?
