Reviving that line would be a tremendous help in reducing traffic
congestion it included some significant park and ride facilities. It
could stimulate development along the Northern waterfront as well.

And I've walked miles of the old right of way for the North Shore rail connection. Reviving that line would be a tremendous help in reducing traffic congestion it included some significant park and ride facilities. It could stimulate development along the Northern waterfront as well.

I grew up on Staten Island and it was a very car centric, suburban life out there. One problem I believe is zoning related. There is a lot of residential-only zoning and not enough mixed use zoning, which only encourages people to drive long distances to do their grocery runs. Where I lived, it was over a mile walk to the local grocery store. The only other closer option was the gas station on Richmond Terrace, which was such a dangerous intersection I often drove just for the safety factor...

More true corner grocery stores/ delis / pizza shops, would do wonders for relieving traffic congestion.
