I've often thought that instead of "No Blood for Oil" signs, the word Oil should be replaced by all the end uses or societal impacts of cheap oil - Sprawl, Traffic, Asthma, etc For the slightly vision impaired, the small words underneath "Bicycling" are: "A Quiet Statement" Some folks forget that one of the best features of bicycles is how ultra quiet they are. In fact they are so quiet that through the din of everyday noisy honking car and truck traffic, cyclists need to work extra hard through extremely bright clothing and loud bells to get the attention of a pedestrian (nevermind cars!)standing in their way. When pedestrians talk about "almost getting hit by a bike" I ask them - where were you standing? in the bike lane? were you on the look out for a bicycle? was there active traffic on the other side of the bicycle? would you be able to hear a cyclist's bell given the level of noise where you were? etc Classic slogan!
