CONTESTED STREETS
Contested Streets explores the rich diversity of New York City street life before the introduction of automobiles and shows how New York can follow the example of other modern cities that have reclaimed their streets as vibrant public spaces. Contested Streets features new footage of reclaimed streets in London, Paris and Copenhagen and interviews with New York savvy notables such as Ken Jackson, Mike Wallace, Bob Kiley, Majora Carter, Kathryn Wylde, Enrique Peñalosa, James Howard Kunstler and many more.

Director/Producer Stefan Schaefer will be on hand to talk and answer questions, afterwards.

The Vox Pop Agit-Pop Film Festival emphasizes local Brooklyn and NYC filmmakers, presenting work that mixes art and political consciousness. The week’s line-up includes the first film by 9/11 researcher Sander Hicks as he explores the pseudo-religious politics that covered up the crime of the century. Esther Bell’s “Exist,” delves into relationships between people in America’s resurgent protest movement and the lengths they will go to to be heard. “Popaganda: The Art and Subversion of Ron English,” a film by Pedro Carvajal, is about the culture jamming and billboard liberation of Ron English. Voting rights activist attempts to wake the country up to the massive voter rip off, in Call it Democracy. And these are just a few examples of the great independent films we’ll have!
